This class will be a playful exploration in creatively responding to imagery, music, ideas, and color. Students will arrive at this virtual class with miscellaneous fabrics, supplies, and mark-making tools. From there, we will begin on a journey of mini sensory “experiences” that students will then have time to respond to creatively with the materials in front of them. For example, we sit and listen to a song together as a class, and then I tell you to directly respond to that song by creating something inspired by it – what do you make? What colors would you use? What type of fabric or block? The intention of this class is to feel a connection as a community through shared sensory experience and then learn more about oneself and others as we witness our own creative responses and see the creative responses of others!

Materials needed:

  • Miscellaneous scrap fabric, yardage you have laying around. (The more options the better, you want to create the most diverse “tool kit” to have in front of you so you can respond creatively in whatever way you want!)

  • Scissors / x-acto / rotary cutter

  • Glue stick, pins, etc (again, grab what you have around)

  • Mark making tools (fabric markers, paints, pens, etc – grab what you have around)

  • Sewing machine

  • Miscellaneous embellishments, add-ons, accessories, etc (pretty much ANYTHING that inspires you that you would want to have in front of you while responding creatively!)
